The New Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) Building is scheduled for completion in late 2016. This presentation provides an overview of the environmental assessment and remedial approach used for this challenging project. The RAM building footprint covers the majority of the former Canada Post Main Post Office building which was demolished as part of the RAM construction. Historical environmental concerns included former fuel tanks, a service station and dry cleaning facility located within the RAM building footprint. Hydrocarbon-impacted soils and groundwater were encountered at depths of up to 28 m below ground surface. The remedial approach selected for the site included a combination of selective soil excavation and risk management of deeper impacts.

Craig Campbell, M.Eng. P.Eng. is a Principal and Senior Environmental Engineer with Thurber Engineering Ltd. Mr. Campbell has a Master of Engineering in Geo-Environmental Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta. He has over 20 years of experience in the delivery of environmental site assessment and remediation projects across Western Canada working with clients in the municipal, commercial, industrial, petrochemical, and oil and gas sectors. Mr. Campbell has experience in environmental site assessment and remediation including pilot-testing, design, installation, and operation of various in-situ remedial technologies to address subsurface contaminants.
