The U of A Student Chapter of the Canadian Geotechnical Society (UACGS) is pleased to host the annual fun Applied Geotechnical Design Exercise: the Reinforced Wall Competition. This will be the first time the competition has been held since 2019! The University of Alberta Geotechnical Centre and the Geotechnical Society of Edmonton (GSE) invite both students and industry to compete. A total of six teams will have the chance to participate. Join us in this fun applied exercise!

Walls will be constructed using only 5 sheets of Newsprint, 2 sheets of 15 cm x 30 cm geotextile, a box of 100 paper clips, and 20 popsicle sticks. The teams have 1 hour to construct the wall. Prizes will be awarded for the Strongest Wall, the Best Prediction of Wall Strength, and for the Most Innovative Design. There will be teams from the U of A graduate and undergraduate students as well as from NAIT. There is also an opportunity for industry to participate – simply select “Industry Participant” when registering to be put on a team!
