Practical lessons and new evidence from the piezometer vane and hyperspectral CPTu technologies

Presenter

Dallas McGowan, P.Eng. is Senior Vice President – Innovation at ConeTec. A civil engineering graduate from the University of British Columbia, Dallas has spent more than a decade advancing in‑situ site characterization for challenging ground conditions, with a focus on oil sands tailings and cone penetration testing methods. His recent work includes two patent‑pending technologies—the in‑situ viscometer for tailings rheology and a CPT hyperspectral module amongst others—and he helped establish the Mikisew–ConeTec partnership to strengthen Indigenous participation in major Oil Sands projects. For the GSE program, he will share practical lessons and new evidence from the piezometer vane and hyperspectral CPTu, emphasizing how these tools may improve our ability to characterize the behaviour of soils.
